So, What's Happening At Marvel These Days?Marvel has found a lot of success in TV and moves lately, thanks to Iron Man, Avengers and, most recently, Jessica Jones and Daredevil. Good for them! But what about the comic book side of Marvel? What stories are big right now? Who's dying/alive/part way resurrected?
All these questions have been keeping me awake at night lately. I HAVE TO KNOW. And I know I'm not the only person who hasn't read a new Marvel comic or hasn't been paying attention to the Marvel news, recently. So I've put together a handy little guide, so you can jump straight back into the Manic Marvel Mayhem! Or whatever. Yeah, Wolverine's still dead. Last I heard, he got covered in molten adamantium or something and now X-23 is Wolverine. And also Old Man Logan's hanging around? So now there's two Wolverines. You just can't get rid of this guy. But you have to admire Marvel for keeping regular Wolverine dead for more than a year. That's a lot of restraint! Good for you, Marvel! There's no doubt we'll see the return of Middle Aged Logan in the near future, but for now he's dead, X-23 is dressed in the classic yellow suit and Old Man Logan is driving black kids from his lawn and falling asleep while watching TV. Marvel recently began teasing a Spider-Man event called “Dead No More” with just those words and a bit of webbing. It's dramatic as fuck, really. But nobody actually knows what this means, yet! Exciting!
More or less. A new series that has become very popular, is Spider-Gwen, which follows a Gwen Stacy from a different earth. This Gwen Stacy was bitten by the radioactive spider on her Earth, rather than Peter Parker. I assume Parker killed himself after years of constant bullying or something. I didn't read that part of the Wikipedia page. As far as I can tell, without actually reading the comics, she's pretty much just doing Spider-man stuff. Hitting goblins and lizards and talking all the time. But I've heard good things!
Pretty much everyone seems to be alive except Wolverine. And we already discussed him, so we know Wolverine being dead doesn't mean anything. In fact, there seems to be a surplus of X-Men, with the original Uncanny X-Men team being brought to the present day. Two Beasts, two Angels, etc. Two Cyclopses can count as one, though. Magneto has a team of X-Men, including Psylocke and Sabretooth. It seems like whatever the X-Men have been doing is really working to rehabilitate criminals! Good for them! Apocalypse has also been killing people and starting wars and stuff. This seems to be regular thing. When you look at all the wars, including the secret ones, the wars going on in real life suddenly seem boring. So, what IS happening with the Avengers? From what I can tell, they're still doing their thing, but it seems easier to just watch the movies and TV shows. Rogue is an Avenger now, giving them a healthy human/mutant mix. More interestingly, so is Deadpool. And not only is Deadpool a proper card carrying Avenger, it was also Captain America who encouraged him to stay on. Captain America thought it was a good idea to have an insane mercenary as an Avenger. It took forever for even Wolverine to get a place and Cap's just handing these cards out like he doesn't even care anymore. Could it be that Captain America is losing his shit? That he just doesn't care who they let in? I'm sensing a new event coming up! “Captain America: The Intervention”. Imagine the Avengers showing up at his place, telling him he has a drinking problem. “Deadpool? Good God, I thought it was Spider-Man!” And then we'll get rehab crossovers and all sorts! Cap seems to have been an old man for a while, but in May he takes the mantle back from Falcon and returns in Captain America: Steve Rogers. I'm hoping Falcon sues. Steve Rogers seems to give up his title quite often, before swooping in to take it back. He's a bit like Jay Leno in that sense. By the time you've read this, there'll be a new one anyway, so who cares. There's plenty I haven't covered here. What's going on with the Fantastic Four? Johnny is an Inhuman and Ben is a Guardian of the Galaxy, while everyone else might be dead or something. What's up with the Ultimate universe? Is that now a part of the regular Marvel universe? Truth be told, I gave up while I was looking into the Fantastic Four, so I have no idea what else is going on. I am now more confused by Marvel than I have ever been and I hope you are, too. This failed miserably! So yeah, hope this guide to current Marvel comics helped you a lot! If you have any other information about current Marvel happenings, let us know in the comments! |
